The challenge faced
In the USA in a 2002 report to Congress, the Environmental Protection Agency found that 45% of river and stream miles, 47% of lake acres, 32% of estuarine square miles, and 99% of the Great Lakes square miles are classified as impaired (unacceptable for designated uses) due to pollution.
Key issue1
The need to increase Oxygen content in contained environments to reduce potential septicity, odour and algae growth issues and resultant impact on receiving water quality and human health;

The need to oxidise compounds dissolved or suspended in water (e.g. metals) or to dispel other dissolved gases (e.g. carbon dioxide or chlorine).
